Hi Jessica -

Good luck on your review! Is the guy from UCLA going to be conducting it?

I think the one that's most important for you is the credible activist one. To be a CA, you've got to be credible, then you have to have strong takes - but publically, and within your business unit.

The hard part - you can't be a CA unless your takes are public and you're actively challenging people outside your company. By blogging here and at your own blog and mixing in twitter, you're in the 99th percentile, but you can do more. Don't stop.

Unfortunately, the hard part is that even if HR people wanted to be CA's, most commpanies won't let them do the external part of that role.

Keep writing....

what about understanding the needs of the business and how your HR policies and activism aligns with that. Both at a strategic level and at the level that you are providing consultative services to. What are their biggest challenges? Are you initiatives even helping them where they need it most? Of course I'm saying this in general, I'm sure you are all over this yourself.

thanks, KD... you hit on something you know that i feel strongly about, but am sensitive about too. thanks for your support, as always. there's also the piece of making sure people internally see what i'm doing externally as a CA... working on that still.

meg bear - totally agreed. i can't believe i didn't include that one but maybe it's because it's such a no-brainer (to you and me at least)... someone asked me the other week what made me a good recruiter and that was the first thing that came out of my mouth. the business partner title shouldn't be reserved for just generalists... recruiters need to adopt it too. thanks for swinging by with your thoughts!
